How to Make Macadamia Nuts Chocolate Bars

Melt the Oil: In a heatproof bowl, gently melt the coconut oil over a double boiler or microwave on medium power for about 20–30 seconds, just until fully melted. Do not overheat. Remove from heat.

Oil Note: If using avocado oil or any other liquid oil, you can skip this step.

Texture Tip: For a firmer texture at room temperature, mix in 1–2 teaspoons of nut butter or use cocoa butter instead of coconut oil.

Add Sweetener: Add the honey or maple syrup and whisk until fully blended with the oil. Stir well, as coconut oil can separate easily.

Note: Natural sweeteners; honey adds body and thickness, while maple syrup keeps the flavor light and slightly caramel-like. Both are less processed than refined sugar and help bind the mixture.

Add Cacao: Sift in the cacao powder and whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
Do not microwave after adding cacao.

Cacao Tip: Cacao powder is sensitive to heat—high temperatures can reduce its antioxidants and nutrients.

Smooth Texture Tip: Stir well between each step. Cooler oil and honey help the cacao powder incorporate more evenly and prevent clumping.

Add-Ins (Optional): Stir in or sprinkle on toasted nuts, flaky sea salt, dried fruit, or any other toppings of your choice before chilling.

Shape and Chill: Pour the chocolate into silicone molds or a parchment-lined tray to make chocolate bark.
Refrigerate for 30–60 minutes, or until set.

  • Nutrition may vary slightly depending on honey thickness, exact mold size, and cacao brand.
  • Using maple syrup instead of honey will yield a very similar profile.
  • For lower sugar, use only 3 tablespoons of honey and increase cacao slightly.
